Before setting up Dunston Associates Limited, Malcolm began his career as a lowly Progress Chaser and eventually ended up as a Programme Manager looking after a team of Project Managers, with project responsibility for over £12m of defence contracts.
He has worked for most of the large defence contractors, mainly involved with ship and submarine sonar systems but also on more exciting projects, such as the control system for an underwater pipe burial plough.
Malcolm was always keen to get involved with IT projects, usually because no one else wanted to! For example, he worked on accounting and project management systems during a two-year programme to install Oracle Financials integrated with a project management system.
Later, as a Systems Development Director, he became involved in the design and development of information data collection systems. It was this heavily IT-biased role that sparked an interest in PC systems and servers, which eventually led to the formation of Dunston Associates Ltd. (Dunston, incidentally, is a small village in Suffolk where Malcolm’s wife, Tricia, lived with her parents.)
Married in 1981, Malcolm and Tricia are both avid readers. They have always had cats and are lovers of all animals, apart from the badgers at the end of their garden, which ruin their lawn! Malcolm played for Woking Hockey Club for nearly 35 years until he was forced to retire because of knee injuries.
